June-August 2011An inspiring place.

The Himalayas are an inspiring place with its steep mountain ranges, high altitude plains and the dry winds blowing through the open valleys. You will ride through this amazing scenery passing small settlements, monasteries and the occasional herd of sheep on the road. You will share this road with big colourful trucks and you will become an expert in riding a classic vintage motorbike, the Royal Enfield, in challenging road conditions.
Riding a Royal Enfield on this particular route is very special. You will ride the motorbike as the locals do and experience Indian motorbike riding in it truest sense. The best way to be part of the local culture is to ride this iconic motorbike with local people.

highlights and features

Climate and Clothing

It is best to bring your own motorbike gear. As your own gear will fit you best it will offer you both comfort and safety. The gear available in India is of substandard. You will need a helmet,  boots and sturdy jeans. A scarf to protect your face from dust and sunshine is practical too. Keep in mind the expedition can be rough, crossing rivers and riding on dusty roads. Further it is good to be prepared for hot, cold and wet weather. Some days you will have five seasons in the space of an hour. While on a sunny day it can be warm enough for wearing t-shirts and shorts. To avoid sun burn we recommend long sleeve shirts, don't forget that sun-cream. For cold riding days we suggest at minimum a climbing jacket, it drops well blow zero up here. Wet weather gear is always good to bring along as it can rain occasionally, as well as a few pairs of sox as those tend to get drenched in the day.
